PLAZA THEATRE AND PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE
City of El Paso
El Paso, Texas

The Plaza Theatre was designated by the U.S. Department of Interior as a “place of National Significance and in a very unique private/public joint venture, the City of El Paso and the El Paso community Foundation hired ECM to lead a team of renown national experts to restore the neglected, 75-year old theatre to its once grand splendor.

The Department of Interior required strict adherence to historic preservation regulations in order to maintain the designation. Cooperation was needed between all parties working on the project including the owner, designer, contractor and all consultants and sub-contractors.

Funding was split between the foundation and the City and accounting needed to be monitored very closely. In addition local, state and federal grants were also contributing to the total funding effort.

ECM met with all parties early in the project to assure the responsibilities and requirements of each fraction were fully understood. Special meetings were held with the different governmental entities concerning their special requirements and reporting procedures. As a result all grants, which were applied, were successfully granted. Through these grant efforts the funding was supplemented by over $2,500,000.
